Property development courses for women:
what to look for and where to start

BuildHer Collective runs Australia’s leading property development and renovation education for women. Our flagship program, DevelopHer, is a six-month course that takes you from “I want to do this” to a real project with real numbers – taught by Rebeka Morgan, a registered builder and quantity surveyor, and backed by a community of thousands of women who are building, renovating and developing across Australia. There is also a part-scholarship pathway to make the program more accessible.

Why a course for women?

Property development has never had a shortage of information. What it has had is a shortage of rooms where women are the norm, questions are welcome, and the teaching starts from where you actually are. BuildHer exists because the fastest way to build confidence on a project is to learn alongside women doing exactly what you’re doing – and to be taught by one who has run the sites, signed the contracts and carried the risk herself.

What a good property development course must teach you

Use this checklist to compare any course, ours included:

  • Feasibility first. If a course doesn’t teach you to run the numbers before you buy, walk away. You should finish able to assess a deal in an afternoon.
  • The full development process – site selection, purchase, planning, design, construction and sale – not just theory on one phase.
  • Real construction knowledge. Look for teachers who have actually built. Ask who holds a builder’s registration.
  • A plan for YOUR project, not a generic template. You should leave with your own next step mapped.
  • Support that outlasts the content. Property moves slowly; a course that ends after the videos finish leaves you alone at the exact moment you need backup.

How DevelopHer works

DevelopHer is BuildHer Collective’s six-month program for women, structured in three phases:

  1. Tools – the skills and knowledge: feasibility, finance, site selection, design, contracts.
  2. Plan – applying it to your own project, with your numbers, your suburb, your strategy.
  3. Support – live help, community and accountability while you actually do the thing.

It’s taught by Rebeka Morgan (registered builder, quantity surveyor and author of “Stop Dreaming and Start Renovating for Profit”, Wiley 2025) with a part-scholarship pathway for a number of places in each intake, and an ongoing membership so you’re never developing alone. Hear from our BuildHers.
