Project

James Street, Northcote

Rebeka and John were looking to create a family home which they could live with their family. This house was more about an exploration of things that they loved than following a specific design brief. The James Street house is Rebeka’s ‘forever’ home. The house that sheand John had dreamt of creating. They started with a blank slate, but a lotof hopes and dreams. Like most people that are building there are somany different styles and finishes that they loved, but they needed tonarrow down the inspiration to a theme!

A mood board that they were able to provide their architectwith finishesthat both John and Rebeka love, from the terrazzo tiles, to the whiterecycled brick, the project was set to have a personality of its own, developed along the way in the way that only a builder and designer can.

The overall concept was around creating a home with all the living on onefloor, all the bedrooms on another. They were looking for a home whichwas conservative in its footprint butprovided ample spaces for everyoneto spread out in.

Natural light and beautiful natural materials are key to the design conceptthey wanted to work with. They wanted to repeat the key elementsthroughout the home to create a space which is calm, yet warm andinviting.

Rebeka and John talk about their three feels of an ideal homeenvironment being inspiring, welcoming and calm. Like they teach, thehome is all about the moments that you share with your friends andfamily, so a big emphasis was put oncreating moments of connection andmoments for retreat within the home. As a big family you need dedicatedspaces for both!

They have had lots of practice working on homes and are always up forexploring another challenge, though out this magazine you will see howand why they put materials together and be sure to let us know whichmoment was the moment you liked best!
