We’re excited to share this transformation! Think cozy charm of a cottage with the modern flair of an expansive extension. This stunning project is a beautiful example of how thoughtful design can elevate a home to new heights – quite literally!

We chat with our very own Rebecca Papas who led the interior design team to cover some of the standout features of this home that we’re really proud of and have make this project a special one.

Charm Up Front, Party in the Back

From the front, this home is a picture-perfect cottage that oozes warmth and character. But wait until you see what’s at the back – you step into an amazing extension that really “wows”!

This juxtaposition of styles is a great example of thoughtful design. The front of the house welcomes you with open arms, while the back encourages lively gatherings and unforgettable moments. It’s a place where you can sip coffee on the porch or throw epic summer barbecues with friends. This home is all about creating those memorable experiences that make life special!

The Hero Shot: Your New Favorite View

Let’s just take a moment to appreciate the hero shot of this home, where the open plan kitchen/living/meals area seamlessly opens to an outdoor entertaining space and garden. Soaring ceiling heights, thanks to the vaulted ceiling, flood the space with natural light and the floor to ceiling glass really allows the manicured, landscaped yard shine.

This is the kind of space that is just made for get-togethers, and the layout encourages guests to flow between the indoors and outdoors.

Clever Design Choices That Impress

While the entertaining spaces steal the show, you can’t overlook some of the clever design choices that make this home truly unique. In an area where conservatism might rule, this design pushes the boundaries just enough to keep things interesting. Take the paved internal stairs, for example. These stunning stone steps create a beautiful connection to the outside, enhancing the overall flow of the home.

As you move from room to room, you can feel the harmony of the indoor and outdoor spaces, thanks to these tactical design decisions. This home isn’t just a pretty face; it’s been thoughtfully crafted to be functional and inviting, making it ideal for everyday living as well as entertaining.

Garage Goals: A Space with Dual Purpose

Why are we even mentioning the garage, you wonder? Well because this isn’t your average garage. It’s a fantastic flex space that adds so much value to the property! Imagine having a spot where your teenager can hang out with friends, or where you can set up an office retreat that keeps work separate from home life.

The spiral stairs lead you to a loft area above the garage, complete with a kitchenette and bathroom. It’s the perfect setup for guests, whether they’re staying for a weekend or longer. This thoughtful design adds flexibility to the home and ensures that every square inch is utilised in a way that enhances your lifestyle.

A Touch of Elegance: The Bathroom Skylight

We pulled off a major feat with the skylight above the bathtub. This clever addition was born out of necessity, as the bathroom couldn’t accommodate a window due to existing architectural constraints. But instead of seeing it as a setback, the team saw an opportunity for creativity.

The skylight draws your eyes upward, accentuating the ceiling height and creating a sense of grandeur in what could otherwise be a cramped space. Just picture yourself unwinding in the tub while natural light floods the room, creating a serene atmosphere.

Attention to Detail

We’re big believers in the little details making all the difference. Like the marble detail around the opening to the walk-in robe. “We wanted to create a special moment as you transition from the master bedroom to the ensuite and we feel this subtle yet elegant touch adds a layer of sophistication,” said Rebecca. It’s these thoughtful elements that elevate the overall experience and make every part of the home feel special.

The Joys and Challenges of Design

Of course, no project is without its funny stories and challenges! For instance, the paint colour was supposed to be Bauwerk’s “Calm,” but due to some miscommunication, the painter ended up with a different “Calm” from Haymes. Talk about the surprise we got when we first saw it! Sometimes you really do need to be onsite to make sure everything translates just the way you envisioned.

As a designer, it’s crucial to nurture the process from start to finish to ensure the vision is executed as planned. With so many moving parts involved, from the design phase to construction, adjustments often need to be made. For instance, tiles specified at the beginning might not be available when it comes time to order materials. Another example is if the builder places an order that arrives too late, it can disrupt the entire timeline or require substitutions that may not align with the original vision – all while maintaining the same price point. It’s definitely more complex than it seems!”
