This is the place where we get to research everything about what type of kitchens we love. This will help us create our mood board, which is the ultimate reference goal. Once we have that nailed, keep on referring back to it to keep you on track. There’s also a super-fun “mood board” challenge at the end of this module too which you can share in our Facebook Group “Women who Design, Decorate, Renovate & Build”.
When you’ve locked in your inspiration, we’ll talk about design and standard layouts and why you’re building or renovating – where do you even start? This is the time that we’ll take you through all of the key items that lead to a successful kitchen layout. Whether you’re building a new kitchen or refurbishing one, your layout is KEY to designing a functional kitchen.
Once you’ve gained an understanding of your kitchen layout, we’ll talk about “selecting finishes”. We find this part so exciting, but to many people it’s a little overwhelming because there are just so many choices! In this module we are going to break it down section by section so that you understand all of the options available and can make the right choice for your kitchen design. Once you get your head around it, finishes are fun – trust us!
Now more than ever, we are spoilt for choice today when it comes to the choice of appliances we can purchase. There are so many types it can be so hard to know which one to choose and why. Before you even start to think about picking appliances we’ll ask you “who is this kitchen for”? Is this YOUR forever home or is it one for re-sale??? The types of choices for each will most likely vary greatly. Knowing what you need and want and then shopping for appliances – yes please!
OK, now that you’ve sorted out what style of kitchen you’d like, the layout, finishes and appliances you’re going to use – how are you going to build it? In this module we’ll take you through all of the options to help you work out what’s the right path for you. We’ll be using the kitchen in Caity’s house as an example for this part of the course and we’ll talk about planning and ordering, preparation, the install and finishing it off. When you’re finished, you might even like to document it with some fabulous photos – show it off!
In the last module of “Kick Start Your Kitchen”, we will give you some guidance on how your decisions will shape the cost of your kitchen. Will your kitchen be towards the budget, mid-range or more bespoke (aka expensive) range of the spectrum? If only money grew on trees right! At the end of the day, what end of the scale is something that you’ll need to decide for yourself. However now that you’re armed with ALL of the knowledge, these are decisions you can now make with confidence!
