A Building spark created a new business

developher justine gaitz created a new business from a building spark

how it all started for justine!

Have you ever had an idea that you just couldn’t walk away from? One of those lightning moments? That’s exactly what our guest, Justine Gaitz, Creative Director at Terren, experienced and she didn’t let the idea pass her by. And good on her, because she now has an exciting future in what could be a big player in the building industry.

in this podcast we're talking about how a building spark led to building a new business

In this episode, Kribashini talks to Justine about the inception and birth of Terren, a company that is changing the rules of the building game. Terren provides limited edition, architectural pre-designed home plans that are fully customised to your site and specifications AND ready to be tendered within weeks.

Justine shares her building journey, how she fell in love with the BuildHer Collective and how her experience with a high-end volume builder gave her the inspiration to say yes to the exciting business venture. She enthusiastically shares about Terren, what they offer and how they’ve gone about developing their plans.

We really commend Justine for not letting the idea pass her by. Getting a house built is a huge achievement in and of itself. Starting a business that allows other people to do that with ease is another thing altogether.

TOPICS WE COVER IN THIS EPISODE OF ABOUT BUILDING A NEW BUSINESS:

  • [1:30]: Justine’s background with renovating and her journey building a house with her parents.

  • [3:00]: How Justine found BuildHer while she was seeking impartial advice when on the journey to build with a volume builder.

  • [5:15]: They decided to leave the volume builder during the town planning process because the changes they wanted to make were pushing the budget too high.

  • [6:30]: How Justine responded when she found out she didn’t own her plans if you leave a volume builder. Because Justine had put a lot of input into the plans, they negotiated with the owner and carried on the design process with a draftsman.

  • [8:15]: In hindsight, they would have gone with an architect because of the level of detail missing in the draftsman plans.

  • [10:00]: They found a builder who they absolutely love and the build has been a complete joy.

  • [11:00]: How Terren came to life and how Justine jumped on the idea to make it happen because she believed in the idea so much due to her own experience.

  • [15:00]: The idea was such a genuine gap in the market and how she was so excited to be involved in a copywriting and marketing capacity.

  • [17:00]: Justine’s experience with her build has shaped what Terren does. They wanted to include accurate pricing and extremely detailed plans to ensure a smooth build for their clients.

  • [20:00]: How Terren’s designs can be customised to suit the orientation and specifications of the land and that their designs are limited editions able to be tendered or owner build.

  • [23:00]: How Terren cuts the build time in half and already check engineering for different soils and thermal assessments from every orientation.
